What Does TST* Mean on a Credit Card Statement?

TST* is the billing prefix of Toast, the point-of-sale system used by tens of thousands of restaurants, bars, and cafés. The restaurant that actually charged you is named immediately after the prefix.

A TST* charge is almost always a meal: dine-in, takeout, or online ordering through a restaurant's Toast-powered site. The amount may differ from your receipt — tips added after the card was run post with the final total.

Common TST* charges people look up

Don't recognize a TST* charge? Do this

  1. Match the date against meals out, takeout, and online food orders — including orders placed directly on a restaurant's own website (many run on Toast).
  2. Expect the posted amount to include the tip, so it may be higher than the pre-tip total you remember.
  3. Ask anyone who shares the card — restaurant charges are prime "my partner grabbed dinner" territory.
  4. Search the restaurant name on WhoBilled.Me; if it's genuinely unfamiliar and nobody on the card recognizes it, contact the restaurant, then dispute with your bank.

Why is the TST* amount higher than my receipt?

Tips added at the table or on the receipt post with the final total, and pre-auth amounts (before tip) are replaced by the completed charge.

Is TST* the same as Toast the bread company?

No — TST* is Toast, Inc., the restaurant payment/POS platform. The charge is from the restaurant named after the prefix, not from Toast itself.

I ordered online from a restaurant's website — why does it show TST*?

Many restaurants use Toast for their own online ordering, so direct web orders bill through the same TST* descriptor as in-person meals.
