What Does MB* Mean on a Card Statement?

MB* is the billing prefix of Moneybookers — the payment platform now known as Skrill — which processes card payments on behalf of other companies, especially games, digital services, and international merchants. The brand you actually bought from appears after the asterisk.

The classic example is MB*MINECRAFT: a Minecraft purchase, billed by Moneybookers on Mojang's behalf. Your money went to the game; the processor's name went on the statement.

Don't recognize a MB* charge? Do this

  1. Take the brand after MB* and check that account's purchase history — for MB*MINECRAFT, check the Microsoft/Mojang account's order history and any Realms subscription.
  2. Ask household members, especially kids with access to a stored card — game purchases are the most common surprise MB* charge.
  3. Search the full descriptor on WhoBilled.Me to identify less-known brands billing through Skrill.
  4. If no one recognizes it, contact Skrill support with the amount and date, then dispute with your bank.

Common questions

What company is MB* on my statement?

Moneybookers, the payment platform now operating as Skrill. It bills on behalf of the brand named after the asterisk — that brand is who you actually paid.

My child bought something in Minecraft — is that the MB* charge?

Very likely. Minecraft game purchases, Realms subscriptions, and in-game currency have historically billed as MB*MINECRAFT through Moneybookers. Check the linked Microsoft account's purchase history.

Is an MB* charge recurring?

It can be — subscriptions (like game Realms plans) renew through the same descriptor. Cancel the subscription in the brand's own account settings; cancelling the card alone may not stop it.
